What is the Arizona Monsoon and is it really a "monsoon"?

The word monsoon means seasonal wind. From the bone-dry weather in June to the hot, humid and sometimes stormy weather of July, the wind changes direction. Winds from a southerly direction bring in moist air and the sun cooks up thunderstorms from early July to mid-September.
